Turner's House, Twickenham
The late owner Prof. Harold Livermore decided to set up a trust in honour of Turner rather than to pass the house on to his family. Derek Plummer was a trustee of this property from inception until it was opened to the public. More information can be found on the Turner House website.
The trust raised £2.4 million as required. We also persuaded the English Heritage (as it then was) to agree to restore the house to the condition when Turner and old dad lived. Turner always wanted to be an architect and was a good friend of John Soane. It is a rare, if not unique, example of a great painter who designed his own home.
